I realize that March is almost over and Valentines was weeks ago, but I really must tell you about the amazing night we had on Bangla Road (the main spot in Patong for the sex trade). It began in the heart of a young man who had a burden to let the women on Bangla Road know that they were not forgotten. That they were loved and cared for by a good God. This young man contacted me and others to see if we could work together to hand out 500 roses on Valentine’s Day. He raised the money through a Go Fund Me Campaign and plans were made. People came from around Thailand and the organizer flew in from U.S. for this moment in time; this one night!
The day began with a wonderful group of ladies who put together gift bags with cosmetics and chocolates and my contact information. Next we had to pick up 500 roses and keep them cool. We sent out teams to walk through the area and pray, asking for God’s grace and love to be seen and felt that night!
As I was preparing for the day I got a call from one of my students, she wanted to know what I was doing and when I told her my plans she stated that she wanted to go with me!
Around 9 in the evening around 25 people from around the world gathered together to worship on the beach and use it as a staging grounds for our excursions down Bangla Road. My student, was grinning with excitement as we grabbed a bundle of roses and gift bags and walked down the road. It was a beautiful night watching her hand roses to the girls in the bars and explain to them that the roses were free and that we just wanted them to know they were loved and invite them to come and learn English with us.
Some people question whether something as simple as handing out roses has any lasting benefit. I would answer that showing unconditional kindness and love to women who are treated as objects to be purchased can ONLY have positive benefits!
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. Galatians 6:9
Our acts of love point people to a God who is LOVE!
